NanoScience the Theme of
Science and Technology/MESA Day
Over eleven hundred middle and high school students,
teachers, and parents visited campus on Saturday March
5th
to participate in Science and Technology/ MESA Day
at UCSB. MESA Day is an annual event organized
through the College of Engineering MESA Schools Pro-
gram and is designed to increase the participation in sci-
ence and engineering by educationally underserved and
underrepresented students. Students from schools all over
Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties converged on UCSB
for a day of science and math competitions, campus lab
and library tours, seminars and workshops.
The day began with a satellite link to NASA astronaut
Leroy Chiao, a UCSB alumnus and commander of the
