The BELLE detector at the KEK B factory started data­taking in June, 1999.
We report the status of physics analysis using the first 0.25 fb -1 data. Results
presented here are all preliminary.
1 Introduction
The BELLE detector 1 at the KEK B factory (KEKB) 2 began physics data­
taking in June, 1999 and collected # 0.25 fb -1 by the end of the year. We
report very preliminary results of selected topics obtained from this initial
data sample to demonstrate the detector capability which eventually leads to
observation of CP violation in the B meson.
2 Spectroscopy
Figures 1 and 2 show invariant mass distributions of various particle decays.
The plots clearly show the reconstructed # # ##, # # # ## + # - ,# # # + # - # 0 ,
# # K + K - , # 0
# # + # - , # ± # # ± # 0 , K #0 (K #0 ) # K + # - (K - # + ), and
K #± # K ± # 0 decays. The results demonstrate good energy/momentum
resolution and particle identification capability of the detector.
