Abstract. Collaboration for e-Science, especially executing experiments in a
cooperative way by sharing data, tools, and expertise towards a common
scientific goal, is becoming more and more appealing for the scientific
community through the use of Information Systems. The purpose of this paper
is to present an environment supporting collaboration in e-Science. The
proposed environment is based on Web services, used to model distributed
resources useful to carry out a collaborative experiment, and on agents, used to
support run time execution of the experiment by dynamically identifying the
most adequate resources for the activities composing the experiment. A
prototype of the proposed environment is described.
1 Introduction
E-Science denotes the use of advanced Information and Communication Technologies
(ICT) to support scientists [1]. The concept of "what an experiment is" is rapidly
changing in an ICT-oriented environment, moving from the idea of a local laboratory
