ABSTRACT
A Markov chain model for evaluating the perfor­
mance of a multistage ATM switching fabric using
split shared buffered switch elements (SE) is pro­
posed. By comparing the results obtained from the
proposed model and simulations, it is shown that
the model is accurate in the presence of uniform
and non­uniform traffic in the switch. To elimi­
nate the influence of head of line blocking, a non­
FIFO queueing discipline approach called a window
by­pass mechanism is considered. By comparing
the results obtained from the proposed model and
