Frederick S. Hubbell
Frederick Hubbell recently retired as a member of the executive board of ING
Group in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Until 1997, he was chief executive officer and president of Equitable of Iowa,
which was acquired by ING Financial Services International in 1997. As an
executive board member, Hubbell was responsible for Insurance Americas and
for Nationale-Nederlanden in the Netherlands as well as ING Investment
Management (ING IM) in both the Americas and Europe. He also was
responsible for the coordination of global activities of IMG IM.
Hubbell practiced law in New York until 1981 when he returned to Des Moines
and became a partner in the firm of Mumford, Schrage, Merriman, and Zurek. He
joined Equitable Life of Iowa in 1983 as vice president of strategic planning. In
1985, he was elected chairman of Younkers, Inc., a subsidiary of Equitable of
Iowa Companies, and also was elected executive vice president of Equitable of
Iowa Companies. He served as chief executive officer and president of the
Equitable of Iowa Companies from 1987 to 1997.
He received a BA degree in 1973 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, a JD degree from The University of Iowa in 1976, and a PMD from the
Harvard Graduate School of Business in 1983.
