Objective and Overview: This course builds on Bus 290 and Bus 395. It deals with
financial markets and their functions and operations, models of financial market and
investor behaviour, the valuation of securities, especially options, formation and
management of portfolios and investment analysis and strategies.
This course aims to help students in understanding concepts from: (1) The role and
operation of financial markets, (2) Modern Portfolio Theory, (3) Asset Pricing Models,
(4) Portfolio management strategies, (5) Methods for analyzing various securities, and
(6) Derivatives.
Although this is not a specific course objective, I would hope that all those students who
have successfully completed this course with high marks (80% or above) would be able
to attempt the CFA Level 1 Exams with minimal additional work.
