Summary: COUNTY REP TIPS
Learn what works from other experienced County Reps!
Gathering parent contact information
1. Contact the Parent Programs Office- all parents of current U of I students are
automatically members of the Moms & Dads Associations. The office maintains a
database of their contact information.
2. To obtain contact information on parents of recently admitted seniors in your area
who will be attending the University (our office will have their information available late
summer), try these options:
a. Some high schools post their seniors' college destinations within the school
b. Your local high school guidance office may be able to give you a list of students
who plan on attending U of I
c. The guidance office may be able to pass your information on to parents
d. Word of mouth- who do you and your student know, and who do they know?
Host a welcome luncheon- (make it Illini orange & blue)
1. Your home- a casual backyard get-together
2. A local restaurant
a. Counter service- reserve an area for about 1 hours, and invite people to drop by
b. Sit down restaurant- reserve an area and negotiate a fixed price luncheon to keep costs
simple
