Abstract
Motivated by the problem of calculating the e usion time of solute from a spherical vesicle
with an open pore, we present an analytical solution of a simpler problem in which solute
particles are allowed to escape through a spherical cavity located at the center of the vesicle.

1. Introduction
The time of e ux of solute through an open pore of a liposomal vesicle is an
important practical problem of direct relevance to the design of e cient drug delivery
systems [1,2]. There are a number of mechanisms involved in the leak-out. The osmotic
pressure di erence between the interior and the exterior of the vesicle produces an
