Summary: The MRL Polymer Facility has instrumentation available for use by all campus
researchers, researchers from other Universities, and local industry: Circular Dichroism
(CD), Light Scattering (DLS or SLS), Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA), DynaPro
NanoStar, Gas Chromatograph (GC), GPCs (analytical, preparative, different solvents,
different columns, and few calibrations), High Performance Liquid Chromatography
(HPLC), Microwave Reactors (Biotage and CEM), Modulated Differential Scanning
Calorimeter (MDSC Q2000), Optilab rEX, Rheometers (with water bath and oven).
We offer training classes on a regular basis usually every Tuesday. Please request
enrollment by e-mail: kbrzez@mrl.ucsb.edu. I will schedule classes ASAP. Before class
please print and read the manual from the webpage:
http://www.mrl.ucsb.edu/mrl/centralfacilities/polymer/index.html
Users of the MRL Polymer Characterization Facility are required to complete the EH&S
Laboratory Safety Class. Online version:

Choose undergraduate version (no matter your background). If you do not have Perm# or
Employee ID#, use any 9 digit number that does not start with 8.
Below you will find a short description of each instrument. More details you can find on
our web page.
