Examining the causes of lung disease
A school project helped convince Tillie-Louise Hackett that she was
destined for a career in science. Learning about plankton and how it may
be affected by global warming at the age of 12 inspired her to go on to
study biochemistry at university. Now, she has become an independent
scientist herself at the University of British Columbia in Canada and is
looking forward to educating the next generation of enthusiastic
scientists.
After A-levels at Brockenhurst College in Biology, Chemistry and
Environmental Science, Tillie-Louise travelled the short distance from the
New Forest to Southampton for her first degree in Biochemistry with
Pharmacology, then stayed on to take a PhD: "I enjoyed the flexible
nature of the undergraduate course, there were plenty of choices but the
