APPLE, EVALUATION OF VARIOUS TRUNK SPRAYS TO CONTROL BORERS
INFESTING BURRKNOTS, 2006: We tested the efficacy of two recently introduced
insecticides, including Assail applied once, on 21June, versus twice, on 21June and on 9 August,
or Dupont E2Y45 (rynaxypyr) applied once on 6 July, against a standard treatment of Lorsban
4E applied on 9 June. Treatments were arranged randomly in 2 row x 20 tree plots and were
replicated 3 times in one location. Test materials were applied in coarse sprays with a handgun
using a Rears Nifty-Pul-Tank sprayer operating at 150 psi. Spray was directed at burrknots and
approximately 0.5 pt was applied per tree. Trees were on M.26 rootstock and expressed
numerous burrknots. Burrknots were examined for freshly produced frass (as an indication of
