We report the completeDNA sequence of theKlebsi-
ella pneumoniae nifl gene, the gene which codes or
component 2 (Fe protein or nitrogenase reductase) of
the nitrogenase enzyme complex. Theaminoacid se-
quence of the K.pneumoniae nitrogenaseFe protein is
deduced from the DNA sequence. The K. pneumoniae
Fe protein contains292 amino acids,has a M, = 31,753,
andcontains9 cysteine residues. We comparethe
amino acid sequenceof the K.pneumoniaeprotein with
available amino acid sequence data on nitrogenaseFe
proteins from two other species, Clostridiumpasteuri-
