Abstract
Leg before wicket decisions in the game of cricket are difficult to judge and notoriously contro­
versial. They involve the umpire deciding if the ball would have hit the stumps had it not been
deflected by the batsman's body. In this report we discuss and prototype a system that uses
two video cameras and software to observe the flight of a cricket ball, forming a model of the
ball's trajectory. With this model we predict whether the ball would have hit the wicket if not
deflected by the batsman. Problems and various solutions are surveyed, implementation details
discussed and experimental results obtained. This project covers the fields of image processing,
stereo visualisation and trajectory prediction.
