The authors prove a conjecture due to Flicker and Rallis in some special cases. They
first consider the case n = 3 where the representation is supercuspidal, and then give
in terms of this result the following statement: R() = (Z/2Z). As a result, they give
a theorem determining when a Steinberg representation is distinguished with respect
to a character, which is part of a more general conjecture due to Prasad.
