with students, faculty, and staff for several years to address the future of the University Center and
the need to enhance services, facilities and programs for the UH community. After an evolving
master planning and design process, the University Center Transformation Project is moving forward
to take this exciting contribution to life on campus from concept to concrete!
The first phase of our University Center Transformation features two exciting additions to our facility.
Joined to the east side of the University Center, a 60,000 square foot addition will feature enhanced
dining options, a 400-seat theatre and a Senate Chamber for the Student Government Association.
On the UC North Patio, connected to the UC Underground, a 30,000 square foot addition will be the
new home of our Student Organizations, Center for Student Involvement, and Center for Leadership
and Fraternity & Sorority Life. Other additions on the horizon for the transformed University Center
include a designated space for faculty and staff and a graduate student lounge. Additionally, two
features have been identified, which are contingent on funding a new building exterior to the current
University Center facility and a 600-seat ballroom, located in the East Addition.
Next week, The New UC is offering two opportunities to see preliminary concepts for the
transformed University Center Complex--and to ask questions about the future of the University
