Since the isolation of the first stable silene (R2Si = CR2)
disilene (R2Si = SiR2)
, the field of multiply bonded silicon
compounds has developed rapidly and led to the isolation of
many novel compounds.
Yet this field of chemistry is still in
its infancy. In contrast to metal-substituted olefins, which are
only few metal-substituted unsaturated
silicon compounds have been isolated and characterized,
and found to have interesting reactivity.
