Dr Samuel Nyman began his interest in psychology studying for a BSc at
the University of Portsmouth, and it was during this time that he first
considered postgraduate research: "in my final year of undergraduate
study I was encouraged to explore the possibility of undertaking a PhD. I
took up this idea, though I wanted to work at the University of
Southampton after a couple of years out." Samuel's research explored the
use of tailored online advice to promote physical activity in older people,
which he completed in 2007.
Samuel's main memories of Southampton centre on his work in the
school of psychology. "It was great to share an office with fellow PhD
students, I enjoyed the research, flexibility, and going to conferences."
Recalling that he enjoyed "pretty much everything" about his time at the
University, it is no surprise that after completing his research he was
