Summary: I would like to introduce myself
by first sincerely thanking and con-
gratulating Professor Tony
Cheetham for the magnificent job
he has done as MRL Director over
the last 12 years. It is a pleasure
and honor to take over the reigns of
the MRL from Tony, and I can
promise that I will try my hardest to maintain the
excellence of the MRL. With the superb MRL staff
and the continued excitement and support of the fac-
ulty, this should not be a problem.
Like Tony, I obtained my Ph.D. from the UK
(University of Cambridge, Organic Chemistry),
though I was born, raised and received my under-
graduate education in Australia where I spent many
a happy afternoon watching Australia beat England
at cricket. After doing post-doctoral research at Cor-
nell University with Prof. Jean Fréchet, I returned to
Australia to a faculty position before moving back to
