Summary: News & Notes October 22, 2007
Robert Mayes directed the Alumni Band at
Texas Tech University on October 13-14. He
judged the Arizona State Marching Contest
on October 20-21.
Joel Fulgham, Woody Witt, and the Moores
School Jazz Orchestra bass player Glen
Ackerman (studio of Robert Nelson) have
been invited to New York to perform on
October 25-28 at the First Annual Convention
sponsored by Jazz Improv Magazine.
On October 7, Akiko Konishi (DMA, studio
of Abbey Simon) and her trio Trio Sofia
(Justin O'Dell, clarinet; Borislava Iltcheva,
violin) were invited to perform as guest artists
in a faculty recital at Louisiana State
University. On October 11 and 14, Trio Sofia
performed in Plovdiv, Bulgaria and Bari,
Italy. During this trip, the trio won first prize
in the Mercadente International Chamber
