Abstract: The ability for a cell to remodel and
change its cytoskeleton is essential for smooth muscle
function. The Optical Magnetic Twisting Cytometry
(OMTC) is a new method that has been used to study
the cytoskeleton mechanics. We applied the OMTC
technique to characterize the rheology of a sample of
human airway smooth muscle cells. An oscilating
magnetic field of 0.5 Hz were applied before and
after KCl application to the sample. Before
constriction, we measured 11.054.0)´( ±=G Pa/nm
and 05.019.0)´´( ±=G . After KCl application,
)´(G increased to 17.069.0 ± Pa/nm and )´´(G
