Abstract
This paper complements previous studies in the technical literature providing a
framework for Smart Homes which emphasizes the integration of the Smart Home
technology with the environment in which the technology is used. The underlying
system is a previously existing Smart Home framework applied to the monitoring of
elderly people with cognitive impairment. We extend it with a technological harness that
makes the communication between the Smart Home monitoring system and the
