ABSTRACT
A software-based implementation of the image codec specified
in the emerging JPEG-2000 standard is discussed. The run-time
complexity and coding performance of this implementation are
also briefly analyzed.
1. INTRODUCTION
Digital imagery is pervasive in our world today. Hence, standards
for the efficient representation and interchange of such information
are essential. JPEG 2000 [1] is a new image compression standard
currently being developed by the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO). In this paper,we describe JasPer, one of the
first implementations of this newly emerging standard. We also
analyze the run-time complexity and coding performance of the
implementation. By studying code execution profiles for typical
