A PhD position under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tansu Alpcan is currently available at the Autonomous Security chair in
Deutsche Telekom Laboratories and Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences in Technical University of
The research topic involves decision making for security under limited information as well as applications of optimization,
control, game theory, mechanism design, and machine learning to security and risk management.
Applicants must have a MS degree from a university in electrical engineering, computer science, or in a similar discipline.
Knowledge in one or more of the above mentioned areas, in particular in optimization, networking, or game theory is
preferable. Candidates with a basic research experience (at least one conference or journal article as first author), good
English, and German language skills will be given priority. Willingness to acquire new knowledge, capability of applying
theory to practical problems, and a genuine passion for research are desired characteristics.
The student will have the chance of closely working with members of Deutsche Telekom, a leading telecommunications
company, and its international research division T-Labs. Collaborations with distinguished researchers from all over the
world, especially USA and Europe, and experiencing the lively city life of Berlin are among additional opportunities.
The position is full time and includes Research Assistantship with partial teaching responsibility (Wissenschaftliche
