Summary: Pathfinder: Find statistics using E-Stat
This pathfinder will introduce you to E-Stat. E-Stat is a "data warehouse" produced by
Statistics Canada and it includes three data types. CANSIM consists of data tables
presented as time series. CANSIM stands for CANadian Socio-economic Information
Management System. E-Stat also includes Census data and some Election data. This
pathfinder will concentrate on CANSIM.
To demonstrate, we'll use an actual research question. We suggest that you do each
step in this pathfinder on a computer. You'll learn a lot more that way than you will by just
reading it! We think you'll find it time well spent.
You are researching the role women in technology with a particular
focus on women in Computer Science. At one point in your information
gathering process, you want to find out how many women at Canadian
universities major in Computer Science. You'd like to trace this
over time in order to determine patterns.
To access E-Stat go to the Library Home Page and click on either Find Articles or Find
Databases on the Quick Links Menu.
