Summer 2005 activities for composer David Ashley
White included a number of performances, including
ones in Russia, Argentina, and Italy. In St. Petersburg,
his Triptych for brass quintet and organ was featured at
the 3rd
International Romantic Trumpet Festival held in
Philharmonic Hall, played by the Smoky Mountain
Brass Quintet from Western Carolina University, NC,
and Russian organist Oleg Kinyayev.
At the annual conference of the Hymn Society in the
United States and Canada, held this year at Trinity
University in San Antonio in July, Dr. White led a
workshop in hymn composing. His choral work Songs
from Old Plum Grove for mixed chorus & piano was
premiered in July at the American Festival of the Arts,
held at Episcopal High School, Houston. Settings of
two folk songs sung in early Texas, the piece was
