A. SUBJECT: Emergency Response Training
B. EFFECTIVE DATE: November 1, 2005
C. POLICY:
All personnel working in patient care areas shall be trained to provide emergency medical
response according to their role, assignments, and activities in the Medical Center. The
Resuscitation Committee makes recommendations for training based on available
curriculums and institutional need.

Basic Life Support
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification:
Covers adult, child, and infant populations
Required every 2 years for selected groups as indicated in table below
Required as a prerequisite for obtaining advanced life support certification (i.e.,
ACLS, PALS) and for maintaining Instructor status (BLS, ACLS, PALS)
AHA Healthcare Provider card valid for 2 years is awarded upon successful
completion of the AHA written exam and a hands-on skills evaluation by a current
