INTRODUCTION
Teaching represents a major component of the University's mission to the public. As members of the
University community, IBIOS Fellows are expected to enroll in IBIOS 602: Supervised Experience
in College Teaching for one semester during their graduate careers at Penn State. Fellows attend
IBIOS teaching assistant (TA) training sessions, assist with course instruction, receive one credit, and
are assigned a A-F quality grade from their course faculty supervisor. This experience is viewed as
an opportunity to enhance professional development, and it represents one of the most productive
ways for graduate students to sharpen their skills. These skills will prove valuable to Fellows
pursuing an academic career, as well as to those who will be leading research teams in industry or
government laboratories.
