Reading for academic and research purposes is very different from reading for leisure. It is important
that you develop and improve your skills for reading academically, so that you are more efficient and
can pick out relevant information more effectively. All your tutors will emphasise the need to read
critically. In other words, they want you to consider what you are reading and weigh up what is being
said in relation to what other people have written.
