Summary: News & Notes October 16, 2006
David Ashley White was recently guest
composer at Howard Payne University in
Brownwood, Texas, where the school's three
choral ensembles, conducted by Prof. Monte
Garrett, performed a selection of his choral
music on Tuesday evening, October 3. The
featured work was The Blue Estuaries for a
cappella chorus, sung by the Concert Choir.
He also gave two lectures on composition that
were attended by both students and members of
the community.
Matthew Dirst recently presented a paper on
"Inventing the Bach Chorale" at the Southwest
Chapter meeting of the American Musicological
Society at Southern Methodist University. He
also performed a solo recital at Memorial Drive
United Methodist Church in Houston.
Over the summer, Professor Dirst performed at
St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City,
