A device for reducing the effects of wave action in shallow water

Abstract
A device, consisting of two sets of perforated balfles, was designed to mediate the effects of mechanical
wave action during tidal flooding. The construction, set-up and effectiveness of this device are described.
Introduction
In studies of the combined effects of mechanical
wave action, reduced light and salt water during
tidal flooding on the metabolism of Spartina
(McAllister, 1988), it was necessary to experi-
mentally control the effects of each factor. The
Bay of Fundy in Atlantic Canada has some of the
highest tides in the world. When the tide is
