The Hermitage: Tours begin at the Visitors Center with a 15-minute film about the life of
Andrew Jackson and the museum. Then, on to the mansion which was completely
restored to its appearance during Jackson's retirement years, 1837-1845. The Hermitage
is one of the most originally furnished of the early presidential homes. Six rooms of the
house retain the original 1836 wallpaper. In addition to original colors and exactly
reproduced textiles, almost all of the furnishings, including furniture, silver, porcelains
