Williams College, the small liberal arts college in
northwestern Massachusetts, has not produced a major
league baseball player since the early 1930s, when two
young pitchers Charlie Perkins and Mark Filley had the
proverbial cup of coffee in The Show. That college did send
George Steinbrenner and me forward to non-playing (and,
some would argue, non-productive) roles in our great game
but until now there had been no effort to consider the
set of early players who made it even if briefly. Rory
