The Industrial Engineering programme (research and education) of
the University of Twente organizes its first symposium on theory and
applications in Industrial Engineering on November 27, 2009. The
programme is organized around the four key areas of the Industrial
Engineering programme: manufacturing & logistics, healthcare,
financial engineering and traffic & mobility. The programme contains
keynote speeches by experts from academia and industry as well
as contributed presentations from researchers of the University of
Twente.
Keynote Speeches
Michael Pinedo, "Planning and Scheduling in the Service Industries". Michael Pinedo received the Ir.
degree in Mechanical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, in 1973 and the
M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Operations Research from the University of California at Berkeley in 1978. He
is currently the Julius Schlesinger Professor of Operations Management and Chair of the Department of
Information, Operations and Management Sciences in the Stern School of Business at New York University.
His research focuses on the modeling and analysis of service systems, with a main focus on Total Quality
Management (TQM) and Operational Risk.
