John Grimmett (Music Education, Junior) has
received a Provost's Undergraduate Research
Scholarship (PURS) to assist Andrew Davis in
the completion of his book on Il Trittico,
Turandot, and Puccini's Late Style. PURS
recipients participate in a research project
under the direction of a UH faculty mentor.
The string faculty of the Moores School of
Music conducted a workshop for participants
in the Texas High School All-State Symphony
competition on January 31, which contributed
to some notable results. Cellist Erik Wheeler,
who worked with Vagram Saradjian, won first-
chair and violinist Benjamin Zanoni, who
worked with Lawrence Wheeler, won second-
chair honors in the All-State Symphony.
Lawrence Wheeler coaches the string quartet
at High School for the Performing and Visual
Arts in which both freshmen perform.
