Summary: Financing your Study Abroad period
One of the biggest myths is that Study Abroad will cost the earth. Studying abroad need not be
more expensive than studying in Nottingham; in fact some students have actually managed
to save money! However all exchange students need to be aware that they are responsible for
paying for their own accommodation, travel, insurance, visa costs (if applicable) and all other living
expenses whilst studying or working abroad and so budgeting is very important.
Tuition Fees
· All University of Nottingham students who participate in one of the University's exchange
programmes pay their tuition fees to Nottingham as usual. No tuition fees are paid to the host
university/campus.
Tuition Fee Reductions
· For students studying abroad for the full academic year through the Universitas 21, University-
wide, International Exchange or Inter-Campus programmes, your fee liability will be halved i.e. if you
are liable for £3,290 fees, you will be liable for £1,610 in your year abroad.
· All UK students who spend a full academic year abroad on the Erasmus programme are currently
exempt from paying any tuition fees to the University of Nottingham for the study abroad
period due to Government regulations.
· All students studying abroad for one semester pay their full tuition fees to Nottingham as usual.
This is also the case for students who are studying abroad for one semester through the Erasmus
programme and one semester through another programme.
