Theever-increasingtechnologicalde-

vative approaches to highly demanding con-
trol problems. Artificial neural networks with
theirmassiveparallelismandlearningca-
pabilities offer thepromise of bettersolu-
tions,at least tosomeproblems. By now,
the controlcommunity has heardof neural
networks and wonders if these networks can
be used to provide better control solutions to
old problems or perhaps solutions to control
problemsthathave withstood ourbestef-
forts.
