Albert Einstein Distinguished Fellow
Luke Laurie, science teacher at El Camino Junior High
School in Santa Maria, CA, has been awarded a 2006-
2007 Albert Einstein Distinguished Science Educator
Fellowship on Capitol Hill. Laurie was one of 14
elementary and secondary science and math teachers
selected for the prestigious fellowship, and will spend
ten months in the Department of Energy (DOE).
The Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Act was signed into law
in November 1994. Selected teachers spend up to one year in a Congressional
Office or a federal agency, helping to guide and develop policy. The Fellows
provide critical educational expertise, years of experience and personal insights.
Laurie has been a long-time participant in MRL programs, participating in Beyond the
Classroom, Science Partnership for School Innovation and ScienceLine. His insights
into policy and congressional priorities will be invaluable on his return to the MRL.
