Chicago born Douglas Melton is
Thomas Dudley Cabot Professor of
Natural Sciences and Co-director of the
Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) and
Co-chair of the Department of Stem
Cell and Regenerative Biology.
Melton earned a B.S. in Biology at the
University of Illinois where he studied
limb regeneration in salamanders.
Having received a prestigious Marshall
scholarship he attended Cambridge
University earning a B.A. in History and
Philosophy of Science. He remained at
Cambridge but returned to
experimental science working with the
famous developmental biologist John
Gurdon, studying development in frogs.
