In addition to this Laboratory's responsibilities in the areas of national defense, energy, and basic research, verification of arms control measures, and international security are receiving attention. The safeguards developments at Los Alamos are described. The worldwide system of safeguards and international cooperation could serve as a guide for cooperation in verification of arms control agreements.
