CIOS evaluation report 79: Dipl. Chem. Paul Schneider
Paul Schneider served during the war as a director of the production of fuels and lubricants from all sources. He supervised separate divisions for petroleum, synthetic fuels, benzene, coal tar, and mineral oils. His deputy for the synthetic fuels division was Dr. Buetefisch Some of the information given by Schneider at the interview is listed as follows: (1) Aviation fuel production in April, 1944, totaled about 180,000 tons, with 140,000 to 150,000 of that being B-4 gasoline, 10,000 of it being iso-octane, DHD, and Kybol gasolines, and 20,000 to 25,000 of it DHD-Welheim gasoline (hydrogenation of coal extract). (2) The DHD plants were in Scholven, Poelitz, Ludwigshafen, Leuna, and Wesseling. (3) The iso-octane plants were at Leuna, Ludwigshafen, and Poelitz. The fuels were designated ET100, 120, and 125, and total production reached 3,000 to 4,000 tons per month. (4) The Kybol plants were at Huels, (400 tons per month), Gendorf (800 tons per month), and Schkopau (400 tons per month). Kybol has blending octane number of about 105. (5) The only isomerization plant was at Leuna. (6) One hydroforming plant was built, with charging capacity of 10,000 to 11,000 tons per month and output of 7,000 to 7,500 tons per month. (7) TEL plants were located at Gapel, Proso, and Gendorf. (8) About 13 different types of underground plants were designed to be built under the Geilenberg plan.
