| Description/Abstract | On May 30, 1987, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry was petitioned to conduct a public health assessment of: the LWD or Liquid Waste Disposal, Incorporated facility; the Calvert City Industrial Complex, in which the LWD facility is located; and the area immediately north of the Calvert City Industrial Complex. Environmental sampling data for the Calvert City Industrial Complex and the area around it are incomplete. Air monitoring studies in and around Calvert City in response to numerous complaints about air quality have been done. In addition, some samples have been collected from surface water, ground water, and biota in the surrounding area and monitoring efforts are continuing. However, with the exception of two Superfund National Priorities List sites, there have been no complete environmental assessments conducted of the industrial facilities in the Calvert City Industrial Complex. After reviewing available data, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry has concluded that the Calvert City Industrial Complex does not pose an imminent health threat requiring emergency actions. |
