Description/AbstractThere is a wide range of drills available at present, but blasthole drills using the largest bits are at their upper limits on power. If larger drills are needed in the future, a larger drill bit must be designed to stand up under the additional requirements. Drill bit diameter is discussed in terms of cost and blasting results. Specifications of rotary blasthole drills are given in tabulated form, including USA manufacturers. Costs of owning and operating a drill are outlined.
