Description/AbstractIt is shown that the absence of multipole moments in the Thomas-Fermi--Dirac (TFD) theory of the electron density is not sufficient to prove that there are no moments in Thomas-Fermi theory. Nonzero Thomas-Fermi moments are allowed if in the limit, as the discontinuity in the TFD density becomes infinitesimally small, there are finite contributions to the TFD moments from the region of space near the density discontinuity.
