Description/AbstractThe effectiveness of energy conservation and the expansion of energy supplies depend on law enforcement. The author considers the energy problem in the United States from a crime-control perspective and suggests policies that would reduce energy demand and increase energy supply. He notes that crime-control strategies, which could result in a displacement rather than an actual reduction of criminal activity, should also consider the monetary, energy, and freedom costs of enforcement to ensure that they do not exceed the benefit of energy saving or supply expansion.
