Title: Radial distribution of the plasma parameters in the afterglow from a periodic high-voltage pulsed discharge in mixtures of bismuth vapor with inert gases

Profiles have been measured for the electron concentration n/sub e/ along the radius of a large-diameter discharge tube (5 cm) for various instants during the afterglow in a periodic high-voltage pulsed discharge in a mixture of the vapor of bismuth with helium or neon. The measured n/sub e/ have been used to recover the radial electron-temperature balance. The inhomogeneity in T/sub e/ over the cross section indicates that there is a substantial difference in relaxation for tubes of large diameter relative to small ones (< or approx. =1 cm). A formula is given for estimating the electron concentration averaged over the cross section of the discharge.
