Title: Production and properties of /sup 232/U and /sup 232/Pa

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5696929

The bombardment of thorium with deuterons in the 60-inch cyclotron produced, in addition to the 27.4-day /sup 233/Pa, the isotope /sup 232/Pa, which emits beta-particles and gamma-rays with a half-life of 1.6 days. The 1.6-day /sup 232/Pa decays to /sup 232/U which emits alpha-particles and has a half-life of about 30 years. The isotope /sup 232/U, which is formed in rather good yield, about one microcurie per thousand microampere hours of deuterons, is expected to be useful as a tracer isotope for uranium.
