| Description/Abstract | Site 32N102 is situated on the east side of Pipestem Lake, a man-made reservoir in Stutsman County, North Dakota. The site appears to be a secondary burial containing the remains of four individuals. Bone fragments were radiocarbon dated at 1591 B. C. + or - 70. Because the site was being disturbed by lacustrine erosion, the Corps of Engineers, Omaha District contracted with University of North Dakota Archaeological Research, University of North Dakota for salvage investigation. Salvage operations were initiated in August of 1978. Laboratory analyses were conducted later in the fall. The osteological remains represent two females, a male, and an infant. The latter was aged from 2 to 6 years at the time of death. The male was approximately 40 to 50 years of age and the two females were 18 to 21 and 19 to 25 years old. |
