Simulation of three-dimensional fracture network geometry in coal. Topical report, December 1995-May 1996

Description/Abstract

The report presents a description and a demonstration of a functioning three-dimensional fracture network generator that can simulate realistic cleat network geometry. The description includes the basis of the generator, the input parameters and the output data set. A demonstration of the quality of the code is based on a comparison of the synthetic fracture to the experimentally measured void space geometry of an individual fracture from a fracture network in a coal core. The three-dimensional fracture network geometry generated by this code forms the basis of a three-dimensional percolation theory flow similar for analyzing absolute permeability, relative permeability, and the capillary pressure-saturation relationship with respect to fracture network geometry.
