Title: AN IMPROVED ALPHA-COUNTING TECHNIQUE

Abstract

A scintillation technique for alpha counting with a zinc sulfide phosphor is described which exhibits higher efficiency and lower background than the standard techniques. The zinc sulfide is coated on a Mylar base, and disks of the phosphor are applied directly to the sample. Counter efficiencies of about 47% are attained and the background is less than 1 count/hr.
