DOE research results are well documented in journal and conference literature, technical reports, and full text databases, but there are also many collections of supporting data in non-text formats that are available to both researchers and the public. The purpose of the DOE Data Explorer (DDE) is to help you discover these non-text resources.
DDE version 1.0 is a curated database for collections of DOE-sponsored data. It contains citations prepared at the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) but based on the information found at the various data-hosting websites. After browsing or searching the DDE database, you can then link out to each data collection where it resides. There, you will often find specialized search interfaces or software toolkits that have been developed by the data owners. These will allow you to search deeper, into the data files themselves, and help you understand, analyze, and use the data within the context of your own research interests.
Future versions of the DDE will add customized web searches and federated searches across these specialized databases of non-text information.
